Pilot Info – Mauboussin Aircraft Believes in Hydrogen

Article Summary

Alerion M1h

Based in Belfort, the start-up Mauboussin Avions is developing a two
-seaternovant that aims to be certified CS23, the Mlh Alérion. L
ow-wing tandem cebiplace and fixed tricycle train was already
characterized by some technical choices such as the dev
elopment of a natural composite cell (wooden structure, use
of flax and hemp fibres for fairings, bonnets, winglets) or
the use of a 80 kW thermal/electric hybrid engine (about
110 hp).

Zephyr technology

On February 10, Mauboussin Aircraft unveiled a pa
rtnership with the Belfort-Montbéliard University of Tec
hnology (UTBM) to develop a hydrogen engine called Zephyr.T
he latter should allow the Mlh to free itself fromfossil en
ergies and reduce its sound footprint. EASA certification a
nd the commercialization of this engine are expected by
2025. The Regional Economic Agency Burgundy Franche-Comtéet B
pifrance are supporting this project,
which will build on the highly developed ecosystem of the hydrogen sector in the Burgundy Regio
nFranche-Comté.
